I don't get weekends to myself, working 7 days whilst Forged Motif finds it feet. However, myself and Steph had this trip planned for a while. We went to Liverpool for the weekend for the Biennial, the international contemporary arts festivals dotted all around liverpool. It allows you explore Liverpool (and get lost), discovering new places and parts you wouldn't think of going to. Some of the exhibitions were exciting and mind bending and some not so. The highlights were; Photographer Kohie Yoshiyuki's 'The Park' documenting the 'busy' night life in the parks of Tokyo in the 1970's, viewing it in a peeping tom kind of fashion in the pitch black with flashlights. Doug Aitken's 'The Source' which interviewed many creatives such as Jack White, Stephen Shore, James Murphy and Beck to find there source of creative inspiration. Markus Kåhre's work that exploits and destroys your visual perceptions and makes you feel soulless by having no reflection infront of a mirror.
As well as exploring the Biennial, we found a few incredible places to eat and drink, Camp & Furnace (pictured) taking the biscuit. Not only is it a plywood heaven, but they skilfully serve the BEST coffee and are mean cooks, defiantly worth a visit. Even if your 10 miles in its vicinity, you need to go. Also Leaf and one that I have conveniently forgot the name of, but it has a little house graphic out side, serve up some good grub and drinks for a not to scary price.
